CWYC approaches all of its work using an anti-racism lens. What this means for us is that we organize these workshops in an attempt to build our base by grounding the work in a common language and analysis. This session will be specifically for young people under the age of 25 and we are asking folks to come in teams of up to 5 people (3-4 youth with 1-2 adults). We are opening up the space for educators to experience the power of liberating young people through the use of history.

The cost of the workshop will be FREE for youth 13-25 year old and $200 for adults over 26. We offer scholarships as they are made available. Alumni of the workshop may attend at NO Cost!

The Undoing Racism/Community Organizing workshop is an intensive 2 1/2 day experience designed to educate, challenge and inspire people to undo the racist structures that block social change.  It focuses on what racism is, where it comes from, how it functions, why it is persists, and what we can do to dismantle it. Participants can expect to engage in:

  • Analyzing Power
  • Recognizing Manifestations of Internalized Racial Oppression
  • Defining Racism
  • Understanding the Manifestations of Racism
  • Learning from History
  • Sharing Culture
  • Organizing to Undo Racism

The workshop is offered by the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond, a national, multiracial, anti-racist collective of veteran organizers and educators dedicated to building an effective movement for social change.  Since its founding in 1980, The People’s Institute has led workshops for over 1,000,000 people in hundreds of communities throughout the United States and internationally (including many from New Haven and across Connecticut).  It is recognized as one of the most effective anti-racist training and organizing institutions in the nation.  More information at www.pisab.org
